Volvo has announced changes for the XC90, which receives the same long range plug-in hybrid option as the facelifted XC60, adding to the second facelift it received in 2024. The battery has more than doubled from 18.8 kWh to 41.2 kWh and is now fully mounted under the floor, raising pure electric range from 77 km to 162 km on the WLTP cycle, with total range rated at up to 1,097 km. The sole petrol-electric option is the T8 AWD, whose European version uses a 177 PS/309 Nm rear electric motor, while the 2.0 litre turbo engine is now in the same 250 PS/360 Nm tune as the B5, for a total system output of 461 PS and 759 Nm. With the eight-speed auto, zero to 100 km/h takes 5.2 seconds. Retaining the old design means there is no space for a CCS2 DC fast charging port, so charging is limited to an 11 kW AC wallbox for a full charge in four hours. The XC90 otherwise keeps its redesigned front fascia, criss-cross grille, rear end, and interior with an 11.2-inch portrait touchscreen now offering Google Gemini generative AI voice control, plus Volvo’s latest driver assist tech. Production begins in the fourth quarter of the year.
