Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted that the company’s AI progress has been slower than expected after investing billions of dollars and reducing its workforce by thousands of employees. During a recent company town hall, Zuckerberg said the development of AI agents capable of performing complex tasks has advanced more slowly than anticipated, and the pace of improvement over the last several months has not accelerated as projected. He also described the layoffs as less organized than intended, with expected benefits not yet materialized. Meta has committed roughly $145 billion to AI infrastructure this year, one of the largest technology investments ever announced, yet reports indicate the company has relied on competing AI models to support its own tools. Internal criticism also arose over an employee monitoring program designed to collect data from company computers to improve AI systems, which was paused after sensitive internal information was reportedly exposed.
