Hey, Siri: Plug into my app like you said you'd do way back in 2024

As of Tuesday, developers can explore expanded Siri AI integration for their Apple platform apps through beta releases of iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and visionOS 27.3, and next spring Apple expects to begin accepting App Store submissions using the new capabilities, nearly three years after announcing plans for deeper third-party Siri integration. Apple said the developer beta offers a sneak peek at Siri AI app intents, letting apps work directly with Siri AI. Siri dates back to 2011 and gained limited third-party app access in 2016; in 2024 it became an interface for Apple Intelligence, whose advertised Siri capabilities were delayed and which prompted a 2025 lawsuit over alleged misleading marketing. After a December 2025 shakeup of Apple's machine learning group, Siri and Apple Intelligence received a makeover at June's Worldwide Developers Conference. Roberto Gutierrez, an Apple platforms staff engineer, said Siri AI is the first version that understands context and can chain actions across apps, but noted it is available in a limited number of languages and regions, with Traditional Chinese support expected by the end of 2026 and EU availability still under negotiation under the Digital Markets Act.
