Meta launched its inaugural AI image model, Muse Image, from the Meta Superintelligence Labs on Tuesday, rolling out deep integrations within the Instagram app. Public Instagram profiles are now automatically opted into being fodder for generative AI remixes; anyone can tag a public account’s profile in a prompt to generate an image using that user’s likeness. The Instagram updates are rolling out first in the US. To avoid AI generations without switching to a private account, users must dig into settings: tap profile, tap the three lines in the top-right, scroll to the Sharing and reuse tab, and toggle off the section labeled “Allow people to use your content on Instagram and with AI features on Meta” for Posts and Reels. Instagram’s help center states that “people may be able to create content with your Instagram content using AI features at Meta” if the account remains public on default settings. Already existing AI images made with your content will not be deleted. Users will not be notified about content created using AI features at Meta.
