According to a Previsible study of 6.77 million AI referral sessions across 166 websites, ChatGPT sends 28.8 percent of the traffic it refers straight to internal search results, a figure that holds near 25 percent across industries. This occurs because ChatGPT often cannot determine which specific page best fits a person’s needs, so it drops them into the site’s search box. SimilarWeb data from June found AI-influenced visitors view 12 pages and spend 11.8 minutes on site, compared to 6.5 pages and 5.6 minutes for everyone else. Additionally, AI-referred ecommerce visitors land on product pages (43 percent of that traffic), education visitors land on course pages (52 percent), and health visitors land on About pages (42.1 percent), indicating these visitors arrive mid-decision, deep inside the site, bypassing the homepage and typical ad-optimized entrances.
