Anthropic PBC was hit with a proposed class action alleging it improperly retained subscription fees after backend changes and production defects reduced customers’ access to its chatbot Claude. Anthropic announced a peak-hour change in March 2026 which meant subscribers would reach session limits faster, and backend changes degraded the Claude Code tool. Subscribers couldn’t figure out whether their remaining usage percentage declines were because of legitimate requests or a defect, according to the complaint filed July 24 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
