Moonshot AI launched the open-source Kimi K3 model, competitive with Claude and ChatGPT, causing Anthropic's implied value to slump US$232bn to $1.56tn and OpenAI's to drop US$160bn to $1.16tn on IG's trading platform from Friday to Tuesday. Anthropic, registering to list on US sharemarkets, settled a lawsuit for US$1.5bn on Monday, paying authors about US$3,000 for each of an estimated 500,000 books. Australia's assistant technology minister Andrew Charlton stated the regulations will let Australian creatives choose whether AI models train on their work and require payment, while giving clarity to investors that "enhances the attractiveness of Australia." Equity analyst Malik Ahmed Khan noted technology companies would find it easier to invest in Australia with clear regulation, and that showing focus on managing legal risks helps convince investors to buy at high prices.
