Samsung Electronics has set 2029 as the production target for the first wafer fab at South Korea's Yongin National Semiconductor Industrial Complex, advancing the schedule by at least one to two years from the previous consensus of 2030 to 2031. According to a Yonhap News Agency report on July 12, the revised plan was discussed at a "Large-Scale Project Government-Business Joint Inspection Meeting" chaired by South Korea's president on June 6. Samsung has previously unveiled a plan to inject a combined 2030 trillion won into its Pyeongtaek and Yongin semiconductor clusters. Under the complex's long-term plan, Samsung intends to build a total of six semiconductor manufacturing plants at the site. Industry estimates suggest that building a state-of-the-art facility takes about two years; working backward from 2029, overall site construction must begin no later than the second half of this year, and the main factory building must officially break ground by 2027.
