Google announced a long list of changes for the Google Home platform this week, including a major upgrade for 1st-generation smart speakers and displays, specifically the Google Home Mini and Google Nest Hub. These devices now have access to Gemini Live by saying, “Hey Google, let’s chat,” joining existing support on the Nest Audio, Nest Hub Max, and the newest Google Home Speaker. Conversation memory has been upped to a total of 15 minutes across the entire Gemini for Home experience, allowing follow-ups within that window. Additional changes include clearer automation saving guidance, expanded window covering controls, and clearer security action disclaimers for smart locks. Bug fixes include an enhanced iOS video experience with lowered playback error rates and improved stream availability, seamless video playback resuming, improved app link navigation, and a fix for missing battery alerts where full camera batteries were incorrectly reported as having zero hours remaining.
