The Ministry of Science and ICT in South Korea began piloting the ZEUS AI search service on the 27th, a conversational AI system that allows researchers to find and book national research facilities and equipment. ZEUS is a cross-ministerial system integrating information on research facilities and equipment built with research and development budgets, supporting joint use by research institutes, universities, and corporations. The new service expands keyword search into conversational search, enabling users to enter their research purpose or needed analysis for equipment recommendations, even without knowing the exact equipment name, and proceed with reservations. The ministry plans to reduce equipment search time and increase utilization of existing facilities. The pilot runs on KT's private cloud environment. Based on user feedback and data, the ministry will refine recommendation accuracy and functions, launching the full service in Dec., which will include separate high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) to improve search response speed and service stability. Hong Sun-jeong, director general of the Performance Evaluation and Policy Bureau, stated the AI search will expand joint use and reduce time and inconvenience for researchers.
