The government also flagged the handling of deepfakes, particularly content involving public personalities, and said verified or authorised content should not be wrongly classified as manipulated media. Officials indicated automated systems alone might not be sufficient and sought greater human review before takedown decisions. Another concern related to synthetic content that returned to the platform after being identified and removed. Meta was asked to explain steps to prevent such content from resurfacing. The government also questioned Meta over its recommendation systems, seeking clarity on why users were shown material unrelated to their interests and why synthetic or manipulated content continued to receive algorithmic amplification after being flagged. The discussions followed a meeting between officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Meta’s technical team on Friday. Another round of meetings was likely in the coming week.
