In a test comparing AI chatbots for grocery ordering via Instacart, ChatGPT and Claude were given the same simple shopping list of infant formula, a small container of ice cream, and some fruit. ChatGPT responded quickly with product suggestions, moved steadily toward a finished cart, and when checkout was requested, a window opened within the chat confirming the order, payment method, and delivery address. Claude, after linking the Instacart account, suggested similar formula, fruit, and ice cream options, with substantial overlap. However, when ready to check out, Claude provided a link that opened a new browser tab at the Instacart cart, where the user had to review and complete the purchase.
