AI chip capacity concerns ease! Zeiss, a key supplier to ASML Holding…

Zeiss, a key supplier to ASML Holding, stated it can meet demand for critical AI components, addressing market concerns about supply-chain bottlenecks. Frank Rohmund, head of Zeiss's Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division, said the company is confident in meeting surging demand and has launched a "genuine, long-term" capacity expansion project. Zeiss supplies core optical systems to ASML, the world's sole manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, and is responding with a decisive capacity expansion and a 15-year technology roadmap. The Semiconductor Division has expanded its headquarters in Oberkochen, Germany, and is constructing a new facility at another Zeiss site, with further expansion possible. This initiative addresses investor concerns that chipmakers such as Taiwan Semiconductor, Intel, Samsung, and Micron might face bottlenecks from ASML and its suppliers. ASML is also expanding production capacity at a pace "uncommon in the semiconductor equipment industry," expecting to mass-produce at least 60 EUV lithography machines by 2026, rising to at least 80 units annually in the next phase. ASML has expanded cleanroom capacity in the United States, Germany, and South Korea, and plans to build a new industrial park near its headquarters in the Netherlands.
