Foreign investors are eyeing Bangladesh as a destination for AI infrastructure, with several international companies expressing interest in establishing AI data centres. A UK-based firm, AIDCQ, has proposed investing nearly $2 billion to build the country's first Frontier AI Data Centre and Quantum-Ready Sovereign Compute Campus. The proposal, signed by CEO SM Anisur Rahman, was submitted to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and seeks government support. The company plans to finance the project through an international consortium of global banks and investment institutions, with potential locations including Gazipur's Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park and the Sirajganj Economic Zone. The project would help safeguard Bangladesh's AI sovereignty, develop a Bangla-based Large Language Model, and create around 10,000 direct high-skilled jobs, more than 50,000 indirect jobs, and benefit over 60,000 families. Representatives from the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea and other countries are holding discussions with different levels of the government. Adviser Rehan Asif Asad said expanding Bangladesh's data centre infrastructure over the next four to five years is extremely important, aiming to build AI capability for startups, freelancers, and innovators. ICT Division Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan confirmed discussions with Japan, South Korea and others, but noted no formal proposal has yet been received and talks are at an initial stage.
