Shinhan Bank has become the first financial institution in South Korea's banking sector to deploy artificial intelligence agents for reviewing property appraisal reports used in mortgage underwriting, cutting review time per report by approximately 70% and tripling daily processing capacity. Announced on the 3rd, the bank developed and deployed an "AI Appraisal Review Agent" that integrates large language models (LLM), robotic process automation (RPA), and optical character recognition (OCR) technologies to recognize report contents, automatically analyze consistency across key data points, and flag items requiring additional verification. Previously, staff manually checked key data fields on every report from external appraisal firms. The AI agent's findings are subsequently re-verified by designated headquarters staff, with final review and judgment remaining the responsibility of bank employees. According to Shinhan Bank's internal measurements, review time per appraisal report has been cut by approximately 70%, and daily processing volume has roughly tripled since introduction. The agent is currently applied to multi-unit buildings such as apartment complexes, with plans to validate accuracy and reliability during operations and gradually expand coverage based on document formats and property types. A Shinhan Bank official said the agent is an internal work tool to support staff, adding that the bank will continuously monitor operational results and expand its application scope to enhance convenience for both customers and employees.
