The United States and China are competing in the emerging field of "digital immortality," with Washington advancing a "digital legacy" economy and Beijing investing in humanoid robots. These "Deadbots" intersect three markets: the digital legacy market, valued at $12.9 billion in 2024 and projected to grow from $17.2 billion in 2026 to $30.8 billion by 2030; the social AI companion market, which reached $36.8 billion in 2025 and is expected to rise from $48.0 billion in 2026 to $318.0 billion by 2033; and the humanoid robot market, which Morgan Stanley forecasts will reach $5 trillion by 2050. The U.S.-based Veterans First for America launched the "QAIAx4E HRR" initiative to preserve identity by transferring "digital DNA" into robots. It plans a network of 300 "small cities" and uses a suit with 40 tactile sensors to record data for digital profiles. Preservation plans cost $300,000 for 100 years and $1 million for 500 years, with registration starting in October next year. China's Ubtech introduced the UWorld U1 robot.
