Google updated Gemini for macOS with the Neural Expressive redesign, previously introduced at I/O 2026 in May for Android, iOS, and the web. The Mac app now features a colorful gradient around the prompt bar, updated thin outline icons, refreshed buttons for the side panel, voice input, Temporary chat, and a rounded full app/mini view. The navigation drawer uses pill-shaped indicators, and the Settings menu is updated. Neural Expressive is available with version 1.86 of Gemini for macOS, while the Gemini for Chrome side panel retains the previous design. Separately, Google rolled out a redesign for AI Mode on Android this week, changing the prompt box to a floating container instead of a bottom-docked sheet, with the ‘plus’ menu and submit button in pills. Before this redesign and Neural Expressive, both apps shared the bottom sheet look for their prompt boxes.
