A new index from digital marketing agency Sleeping Giant Media, called The AI Visibility World Tournament 2026, reveals that elite national football teams are facing a digital blackout inside ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Copilot. Each team's official website was assessed across ten weighted factors, with the greatest weighting given to crawlability (20%) and passage-level citability (15%), producing a Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) Readiness Score out of 100. Seven of the top 10 FIFA-ranked teams failed to reach a score of 50/100, and on average, all 48 teams scored just 38 out of 100. Curaçao's football team had the most GEO-ready website overall, while Morocco's football team had the least. England ranked 10th overall but only scored 40/100. Luke Quilter, CEO of Sleeping Giant Media, stated that AI search engines care about data liquidity, and if a team's website is not optimised, it loses its brand voice to third-party forums.
