Dentsu launched CHARAMO, an AI-powered platform for character IP development, on Aug. 12. The Tokyo-based advertising group said the service combines proprietary AI, built with Dentsu's character development and production expertise, with specialist creators. The platform is designed to produce and manage character content while preserving an IP's worldview, supporting uses from broader deployment of existing characters to the creation of new ones. As its first project, Dentsu introduced Flipples, a character series created from "flip" responses by comedians affiliated with Yoshimoto Kogyo. The series will be developed across social media posts, character chat, podcasts, events and merchandise. Dentsu said companies and entertainment businesses are placing greater emphasis on fan engagement, but that efforts to increase content output and customer touchpoints are often constrained by workload and supervision needs. CHARAMO was developed to address those issues by combining AI with Dentsu's creative capabilities. The platform uses information about an IP or talent to design a character's worldview and logic with AI, then extends that into multiple content formats. It supports content production across character-based chat, audio and video, and social media, and aggregates fan questions and reactions into reports for future programming and merchandise planning. CHARAMO includes an AI character engine that designs profiles, tone of voice and speech rules, and supports group chat, podcast creation, video podcasts, interactive event functions, and social media post generation.
