Microsoft has disclosed a next-generation Windows AI PC roadmap that divides its on-device artificial intelligence strategy into four tiers based on memory capacity and compute power, according to a document outsiders view as its hardware ecosystem roadmap for coming years. Tier-0 entry-level AI PCs start at 8GB of memory and handle only local context and simple operations such as opening a few browser tabs, sending and receiving email, processing office documents and using video conferencing software such as Microsoft Teams, running on chip solutions including Intel Core Series 3 "Wildcat Lake" and Core Series 4 "Wildcat Lake Refresh," AMD Ryzen 100/200 series, and Snapdragon C, Snapdragon X and Snapdragon X Plus, with current market prices mostly clustered around the $500 range. Tier-1, the broadest mainstream segment, spans 16GB to 64GB of memory and must meet the Copilot+ standard, handling local question-and-answer, local task delegation and long-running local tasks, and includes Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake," AMD Ryzen AI 400 "Gorgon Point," Snapdragon X2 Plus and X2 Elite, plus next-generation platforms Intel Core Ultra Series 4 "Nova Lake" and AMD Ryzen AI 500 "Medusa Point." Tier-2 devices carry 128GB or more of memory and can build models locally and serve them externally, represented by AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 400 and NVIDIA
