Doubao and Qwen Mass-Delist AI Agents: Why Are Tech Giants Abandoning…

Over the past weekend, China's AI industry was hit by a series of bombshells as the nationally popular AI assistants Doubao and Qwen announced they would officially discontinue their AI agent features in the near future, following Tencent's Yuanbao which had already shut down the entry point for users to create custom agents. The industry interprets this mass delisting as compliance preparations for the "Interim Measures for the Administration of Anthropomorphic AI Interaction Services," which will officially take effect on July 15. An industry insider revealed that meeting compliance requirements means platforms need to deploy both machine and human resources for basic content moderation, with costs that will not be low. Data previously disclosed by ByteDance shows that over 8 million agents have been created on the Doubao platform, corresponding to 26 million monthly active users. Some users have conversed almost non-stop with their AI agent "friends" on Doubao for nearly three years, sharing daily life and venting emotions.
