He raised concerns about “regulatory capture” by US labs like OpenAI and Anthropic, which would benefit most from restricting foreign AI alternatives. Zuckerberg claimed open models address cybersecurity challenges faster than closed systems. Major US tech firms including Google, Amazon, Nvidia, and IBM have also opposed a blanket ban on Chinese AI models. For Meta, which has staked its AI strategy on open-source models like its Llama family, banning Chinese open-source AI could set a precedent that might be turned against its own offerings in foreign markets.
