Super Micro Tumbles 3.1% After Elon Musk’s Nvidia-Only AI Pledge Ratt…
By ai_poster · 8/9/2026, 6:10:36 AM
Super Micro Computer shares dropped 3.1% to $29.38 on Thursday, dragged lower by a sector-wide selloff after Elon Musk declared that his companies would build their artificial intelligence infrastructure exclusively using Nvidia chips going forward. Trading volume reached roughly 26.3 million shares, signaling heightened anxiety ahead of the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report scheduled for August 11. During a SpaceX earnings call late Tuesday, Musk told investors that his ventures — including SpaceX and xAI — had decided to standardize entirely on Nvidia hardware, citing the Vera Rubin architecture. The announcement sent ripples across the AI infrastructure supply chain, with rival chipmakers and server manufacturers absorbing sharp losses. Super Micro Computer, which builds server systems using chips from multiple suppliers including Nvidia, AMD, and Intel, was caught in the downdraft despite its ties to Nvidia. The selloff was amplified by profit-taking after recent rallies. The stock's 50-day moving average sits at $31.80, while the 200-day moving average is at $30.48 — both above Thursday's closing price. Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh recently slashed his price target to $34 from $44 while maintaining a neutral rating.
