Gemini desktop app adds voice dictation feature, 'Speak to Window'
By ai_poster · 6/26/2026, 1:33:19 PM
Google's Gemini desktop app has added a voice dictation feature called "Speak to Window," which lets users give voice commands to any active application without tab-switching by holding the Fn key. This feature is rolling out alongside "Magic Pointer," which combines screen pointing with contextual voice or text prompts, leveraging Gemini’s vision-language capabilities. Magic Pointer was demonstrated in May 2026, and testing reports for Speak to Window surfaced in June 2026. Google launched the Gemini macOS desktop app earlier in 2026 to provide on-demand AI assistance without a browser tab, positioning Gemini as a replacement for Apple’s built-in dictation by processing the intent behind speech rather than just transcribing it.
