On Tuesday, Anthropic announced Claude Science, a major new product intended to support scientific research, now available to all paid Claude subscribers. Like Claude Code, Claude Science can autonomously carry out meaningful work from high-level instructions and has tools useful for computational biology and drug development. Anthropic also announced it will use the product to pursue its own research into drugs for rare, neglected diseases. Unlike the earlier “Claude for Life Sciences” plug-ins released in October, Claude Science is a full-featured, standalone product. Eric Kauderer-Abrams, Anthropic’s head of life sciences, stated, “It represents how important this is to our mission that this is right up there with Claude Code and Claude Cowork as the next really significant product that we’re releasing.” Earlier this month, John Jumper, who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for work on DeepMind’s AlphaFold model, announced he is leaving DeepMind for Anthropic.
