Giga Texas Optimus Factory: 6 Details That Matter

Tesla’s purpose-built Optimus robot factory at Giga Texas is under construction on the North Campus, with aerial footage shared by Joe Tegtmeyer on November 2 showing the steel frame rising. Tesla broke ground on the site on March 23, 2026, and the first structural steel went up on May 27; by October 1, the main steel frame was nearing completion with concrete being actively poured on upper floors. At full build-out, the factory is planned to span approximately 7 million square feet of manufacturing space as part of a broader 5.2 million square foot North Campus expansion, with a footprint stretching nearly 4,000 feet in length. The facility is designed for 10 million Optimus Gen 4 robots annually, or roughly 27,000 units every single day. Fremont is currently running an early Optimus Gen 3 production line sized at roughly 1 million units per year and focused primarily on internal deployment, algorithm training, and R&D, while Giga Texas is designed from day one for mass-market volume. Based on the October construction pace, the structural shell is projected to be completed before the end of 2026. The investment behind the project is up to $10 billion.
