Chicago woman says AI helped her identify, locate alleged attacker
By ai_poster · 9/19/2026, 9:19:45 PM
Chicago woman Zoe Threlkeld says artificial intelligence helped her identify and locate the man she alleges assaulted her over the summer. Threlkeld said she met Isaiah Del Toro at a River North bar in June and invited him to her apartment, but later asked him to leave, at which point she claims he attacked her, stealing her phone and hitting her with a pot, leaving her with staples. Using his nickname and a Facebook profile picture, she uploaded the image to ChatGPT and asked where the brownstone shown was, because it had a number. She said she brought his number, name, address and other information to police. Del Toro has since been arrested and, according to court documents, is charged with aggravated battery, robbery and theft. Cybersecurity expert Alex Hamerstone of TrustedSec called using modern technology to help police track someone down fascinating, noting the potential is limitless in positives and possibly negatives. The case comes amid calls to slow AI development, after whistleblower Jacob Coxon warned last week the technology could kill humans by the end of the decade. Del Toro is due back in court on Oct. 6, and Threlkeld said she is thankful he remains in custody.
