ChatGPT has introduced a new AI voice model called GPT-Live, which includes duplex functionality that allows users to keep talking while ChatGPT responds and to interrupt it mid-flow. The model is rolling out to all ChatGPT users, with free users receiving GPT-Live-1 mini and paid users receiving GPT-Live-1. Users can check for the upgrade by looking for the Live label at the top of voice chats on mobile or behind the ChatGPT drop-down on the web, or by navigating to Settings > Voice > Model on mobile or web. Five recommended first uses include: testing the duplex feature; interrupting ChatGPT mid-response; asking for real-time language translation; changing voice and intelligence level via the sliders icon (options are Instant, Medium, and High); and asking questions with visual answers, such as sports scores, weather forecasts, and map locations. OpenAI acknowledged early bugs and noted issues with memory not being as reliable in ChatGPT Voice with GPT-Live, stating they are actively investigating.
