Anthropic, described as the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence company, told Treasurer Jim Chalmers its US15 billion ($21.6 billion) commitment to the Australian economy, including training its Claude AI model there, was contingent on clarifying local copyright. The Albanese government is still not close to reaching a final position on the laws. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will on Wednesday deliver a landmark speech on AI outlining how tech giants such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft, as well as data centres, will have to “earn” their social licence to operate in Australia.
