For the second week in a row, a UFC fighter has taken issue with Herb Dean over shots to the back of the head. Alex Pereira was critical of Dean when reflecting on his interim heavyweight title loss that took place at the White House, as he is adamant that Ciryl Gane hit him several times in the back of the head. At UFC Vegas 119, Andre Fili was stopped in the second round and felt he was hit in the back of the head during the finishing sequence. Fili shared a screenshot from the fight that shows what he believes was an illegal strike, writing on his Instagram story, “Very clearly back of the head. This is the shot that dropped me. Not a clean punch, not a body shot. If this shot doesn’t happen, or is addressed by the referee, the fight goes to a third round. That’s my frustration. I wanted and deserved the chance to keep fighting.” Pereira believes that Gane wouldn’t have survived the fight and has made similar comments about his own ability to recover if he hadn’t been hit in the back of the head. Pereira specifically spoke to a referee backstage about strikes landing to the back of the head before he made the walk on the White House lawn on June 14.
