Sam Altman’s World project (formerly Worldcoin) has launched what it describes as the biggest update to the World ID system, aiming to build infrastructure that proves a user is a “real human” and acts as a shield against deepfakes and bots. The system relies on its “Orb” spheres, which scan the face and iris to turn eyes into a unique encryption code; the company says it deletes images immediately after processing and sends only anonymous parts of the code over a distributed network. The new update, dubbed “World 4.0,” focuses on improving privacy, security, and ease of use. World has expanded partnerships to include Tinder, where users can display a “Verified Human” badge, and Zoom, which introduces a “Deep Face” feature to verify meeting participants are real people. It also extended to Docusign for digital contract verification and gaming and entertainment platforms to fight scalper bots. An “AgentKit” tool for developers was launched, allowing for linking human identities to software agents for secure e-commerce. Sam Altman stated during the event that the World ID system is moving confidently toward the future.
