Meta launched Muse Spark 1.1, its first paid AI API for developers, charging roughly 25% of rival API costs to compete with ChatGPT and Gemini. The model offers upgrades in coding, multimodal reasoning, tool use, and AI agent capabilities, and supports text, images, video, audio, and PDFs with a 1 million-token context window. Developers can use the model for free up to a token limit, then pay for additional usage via the new Meta Model API. Meta says Muse Spark 1.1 is competitive on benchmarks including coding and reasoning tasks, and the same model will power Meta AI across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, its standalone app, and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The strategy comes as Meta has committed hundreds of billions of dollars to data centers, chips, and talent, aiming to open a new revenue stream while keeping free consumer AI experiences.
