Anthropic is lowering the classifier overhead fees that Claude Code users pay, effective as of August 7, 2026. The reduction addresses a cost layer that previously added 15% to 28% on top of total token expenses during Auto Mode or safety-checked sessions. Safety classifiers review requests before Claude Code executes certain tasks, consuming compute resources, and Anthropic passes a portion of that cost to users. For example, a developer spending $100 on tokens during an autonomous coding session could see an additional $15 to $28 in overhead. The cost disproportionately affected users in permission-heavy workflows. This is not Anthropic’s first billing adjustment of 2026; the company has made multiple pricing changes, including modifications to subscription pools and the introduction of Agent SDK credits ranging from $20 to $200 depending on subscription tier. Some earlier changes increased effective costs for certain workflows, generating user dissatisfaction. Claude Code operates across several subscription levels, with the Pro tier at $20 per month and Enterprise pricing scaling from there. Recent adjustments also doubled rate limits for some plans. Anthropic has not disclosed the exact new overhead percentage, but the direction is downward, targeting power users running autonomous agents, multi-step coding pipelines, and extended sessions.
