A new survey by Blind, the anonymous community app for professionals, found that Indian tech professionals in artificial intelligence and machine learning feel almost as vulnerable to job cuts as the colleagues they assumed the technology would displace. The study covered 1,552 India-based professionals and found that 66 per cent of those in AI/ML functions expect a layoff or significant headcount reduction within their team over the next three to six months, placing the discipline near the top of the anxiety table, behind sales and marketing at 68 per cent and ahead of product and design at 65 per cent. Engineering emerged as more secure, with only 24 per cent of engineers describing a cut as "very likely", the lowest share for any team, and overall at-risk sentiment within engineering at 58 per cent. Data and analytics had at-risk sentiment of 51 per cent. Perceived risk was highest at Salesforce, where 81 per cent of respondents anticipated cuts, followed by Oracle at 80 per cent, Uber at 77 per cent and PayPal at 75 per cent, while Zoho registered 9 per cent and Freshworks 44 per cent. Among respondents expecting headcount reductions, hiring freezes were cited most often as the strongest signal at 27 per cent, followed by cuts to budgets or headcount targets at 24 per cent, with layoffs already announced accounting for only 9 per cent.
