Since launching the AI.Humanity initiative in 2022, Emory University has formed the Academic AI Task Force (AAIT) through the Office of the Provost to define a university-wide academic direction for AI. The AAIT focuses on pedagogy and assessment, curriculum and literacy, academic integrity, research methods and ethics, and interdisciplinary scholarship. Provost Badia Ahad stated the task force builds on progress including "nearly 50 new interdisciplinary AI faculty, the Center for AI Learning, the Empathetic AI for Health Institute, and new academic offerings." Senior Vice Provost Pearl Dowe said the goal is to address AI's impact on Emory’s academic mission, maintaining academic integrity and ensuring AI supports effective teaching and research. The AAIT will center on four pillars: Pillar 1 (Teaching, Learning, Curriculum & Integrity), which will establish an academic framework for generative AI use in coursework and define AI literacy outcomes; and Pillar 2 (Intellectual Community & Interdisciplinary Collaboration), which will advance Emory’s intellectual identity at the intersection of AI and the human condition.
