The billboard claims ChatTJB is the “leading chatbot interface powered by AI,” but Bryant jokes it offers “artisanal intelligence, handcrafted by a single human being,” describing it as an LLE, or “single-operator large language experience.” He explains, “Picture this: ChatGPT but, on the other end, it’s just me giving bad advice.” Bryant is concerned about dependence on AI and wants to raise awareness of “cognitive surrender,” a term from researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School describing blind trust in chatbots despite faulty advice. He initially wanted to call it "BadGPT" but the domain was too pricey, so he used his initials and began answering thousands of queries manually. His answers are slow, possibly incorrect, or cryptic, aiming to make users question AI responses. Users on Reddit praised it, with comments like “No notes. Fantastic” and “Omg I love this. Just tried it out, way more interesting than ChatGPT that’s for sure.” Bryant funded the billboard by digging deep, wanting fewer billboards hawking “a real AI company.” ChatTJB answers questions on topics from house paint colors to imposter syndrome.
