Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Stanford University graduates earlier this month to stop obsessing over first jobs, saying "very few of them are make or break." Pichai, 54, recalled a road trip to Las Vegas where a classmate convinced him to skip a lecture, and he saw snow for the first time, learned to play blackjack, and discovered "the world won’t end if I relaxed a little." He added that while some life decisions are critical—such as choosing a partner, deciding whether to start a family, or making a major career pivot—ultimately, "very few of them are make or break." Amazon CEO Andy Jassy urged young professionals to embrace starting at the bottom, saying "if you aren’t willing to start at the bottom and pay your dues, it’s unlikely that you’re going to ever be successful." JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said at an event in Davos, Switzerland earlier this year, "There’s going to be a grunt part to every part of a job. Get over it," and advised against job-hopping, stating "do not get a new job."
