Cartoonist Mark Knight created a cartoon depicting Prime Minister Albanese facing a Terminator T-800 cyborg unit, symbolising the unchecked rise of artificial intelligence. The Australian Government and Prime Minister Albanese have in the last week set out to establish ground rules for big tech companies wanting to operate their AI models in Australia and use data, art, journalism, and music to train their AI programs. Knight added concerns to the robot including job losses, copyright issues as AI steals intellectual property, and the rise of giant, resource-hungry data centres requiring thousands of megawatts of electricity, millions of mega litres of water, and more land than an entire suburb. The cartoon shows the Terminator bursting into the PM’s soon-to-be-created Government Office of AI, with Albanese standing with fists raised, saying “I’ve got this”.
