Cursor, the San Francisco-based company behind an AI-powered code editor, is building a general-purpose AI agent called Sand to compete with Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the productivity space. Sand is designed to handle workplace tasks such as responding to emails, managing text messages, organizing spreadsheets, and engineering-related work. The internal rollout happened in late June 2026, with Cursor employees already using the tool. Cursor’s coding tools launched around 2022. No public launch timeline has been confirmed, and Sand remains in internal testing. Cursor began leasing compute resources from SpaceXAI back in April 2026, and a potential acquisition of Cursor by SpaceXAI, valued at $60 billion, is reportedly on the table. Sand and Cursor’s broader initiatives have no connection to cryptocurrency or blockchain.
