Google Docs has introduced four new Gemini-powered comment features to streamline collaborative editing. Users can ask Gemini to summarize entire comment threads or identify unresolved issues by typing a natural language prompt like “What are the unresolved issues based on the comments?” Gemini can also add comments on behalf of users, drafting requests such as asking a teammate to verify specific stats, and draft contextually grounded replies to open threads, handling tasks like confirming approvals or answering questions using files in Drive. Additionally, Gemini can suggest document edits based on reviewers’ feedback, generating changes that users can apply with a click. These suggestions appear automatically in the Gemini side panel or bottom bar. The features are on by default for admins with Gemini for Workspace enabled in Drive, and available to Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise, Education Plus, and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Rollout began this week and should reach all eligible users within about 15 days. Google also recently shipped a related upgrade where Gemini can generate and edit images, diagrams, and infographics directly inside Docs, using the document’s content as context and applying consistent styling across multiple visuals with a single natural language prompt.
