Midjourney, known for producing artificially realistic depictions, has announced its latest product: the Midjourney Scanner, part of its new division, Midjourney Medical. The company says it plans to use ultrasound technology — with "rings of sensors to capture vertical slices of the inside of your body" — to create a "body composition map" for the consumer-facing scanner. The company describes the 60-second process as stepping into a shallow pool of golden light and descending into water, where the body passes through a ring of underwater sensors. Midjourney's ultrasound scanner uses sound waves and water to create a detailed 3D map of the body's muscles, fat, bones, and organs, framed as a "soft run" toward investigating a bigger problem. Midjourney acknowledges the strange optics, calling the idea "a little crazy" while describing it as "spectacular" and "filled with hope." CEO David Holz says the hope is to one day be "as powerful as MRI," but cheaper and able to deliver "as many megabytes per second per dollar of information about your body." The company is also launching a series of spas. Midjourney is based in San Francisco.
