A 29-year-old Perth woman, Alanah Gail Smithwick, accused of murdering her eight-month-old baby Eden Everley-Jane, is applying for a judge-alone trial next year, with the court hearing that “a series of ChatGPT logs that are voluminous in nature” will form a substantial part of the evidence. Smithwick was arrested last October after her daughter was found dead at a home on Winpara Way, in Baldivis. Earlier this month, she pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder by reason of insanity after a psychiatrist deemed her acutely unwell based on a preliminary report. Smithwick appeared in the Supreme Court of WA for the first time on Monday via video link from Bandyup Women’s Prison, dressed in prison uniform, and spoke only to acknowledge her name. After the incident on October 30, she was taken to Rockingham Hospital and then transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a stable condition. Neighbours told 9 News Perth they heard screaming moments before paramedics arrived. Smithwick will return to the Supreme Court on August 17 for a finalised psychiatric report.
