Meta Wants to Rule AI. It Can't Even Stop Brands From Making Fake Joe…
By ai_poster · 8/5/2026, 4:21:25 AM
Meta, despite its major AI investments, has failed to stop brands from running fake celebrity endorsement ads on its platforms, according to an independent analyst. The article describes how the anti-snoring brand Respyria posted ads on Instagram and Reels featuring celebrities like Joe Rogan and Jack Black, with podcast clips "clearly augmented by generative AI." The analyst noted that Meta had "just announced a continued investment in AI, denting the company’s profitability and irking investors," yet the ads remained visible in Meta's ad tracker. Will Heins, managing partner at Jellyfish, said this is "a continuation of a moderation challenge" and that with AI advancements, "It’s harder now," adding that platforms face an "incredibly challenging balance" between preventing fake news and not curtailing creators. The article also cites Reuters reporting that Meta "now expects 2026 capital expenditure to be between $130 billion and $145 billion, compared with its prior forecast of $125 billion to $145 billion." The analyst questioned Meta's role, noting that while generative AI is easy to use, stopping deepfakes on such a wide-open platform seems "near impossible," and that "to Meta, money is money."
