Microsoft launched an experimental tool for its Edge browser called Copilot Mode, giving its AI assistant full visibility over user searches to take control, offer suggestions, and find shortcuts. This opt-in mode is available on both Windows and Mac for regions where Copilot is active. When switched on, a new tab presents a single box for navigating to websites, searching topics, or chatting with Copilot, which also scans open tabs to offer help. Microsoft gave an example of searching for vacation locations, activities, and accommodation across multiple tabs, where the browser would suggest activities near a beach in a different tab. Voice navigation is built into Edge, and Microsoft is working on future tools for Copilot to access search history and credentials. Copilot Mode launches today, with a pop-up notification for activation or an option to add it via a link. Microsoft stated it will be “free for a limited time,” suggesting features may eventually require a subscription.
