Indiana State Representative Wendy Dant Chesser (D-71) addressed resident concerns about the Meta data center at River Ridge, clarifying misconceptions about water use, noise, and construction. Chesser, who also serves as Chief Director of Corporate Strategy and External Affairs at River Ridge, said the project should not threaten local utility resources or disrupt nearby communities. She noted River Ridge operates its own independent water system, serving only businesses within the commerce center and Charlestown State Park, and that residents, hospitals, or schools will never be within its service area. The site sits on a robust aquifer; when it operated as the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, it used roughly 70 million gallons of water per day. River Ridge is doubling its water treatment capacity from 6 million to 12 million gallons per day, still well below historical usage. Chesser said Meta is not projected to be the largest water user, as its closed-loop cooling system only requires minor top-offs. Regarding noise, the property has been zoned for heavy industrial use since 1940, and blasting has concluded. Monitors confirmed contractors remained within permitted decibel limits, and operational fan noise is expected to be minimal due to the water-cooled system. The $800 million, 700,000-square-foot Meta campus is built on a 619-acre footprint.
