International Motors and PlusAI are building factory-installed Level 4 trucks on NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX Hyperion platform, with the DRIVE AGX Thor system-on-chip running PlusAI's SuperDrive software, per an Oct. 28, 2025 International announcement covered by Fleet Owner. Fleet Owner described a three-way split: International supplies the vehicle and factory, PlusAI the SuperDrive software, and NVIDIA the AI compute. The trucks are to carry lidar, radar and cameras for 360-degree awareness, with sensor fusion and redundancy for long-haul highway environments. Tobias Glitterstam, International's SVP and chief strategy and transformation officer, said the work builds on fleet trials in Texas and is a step toward production. Nauto CEO Stefan Heck told Heavy Duty Trucking in May 2026 that the industry's real bottleneck is proving driverless trucks safe in rare situations, requiring real-world data on the order of hundreds of billions of miles; early runs will stick to corridors like Interstate 10. Heck said simulation cannot close that gap alone, citing aircraft and nuclear plants running at seven nines of reliability against a public conversation that stops at 99%.
