Esther Yu's team has slammed the illegal use of the singer-actress' voice and likeness in AI-generated content, after a netizen posted a video of an AI short drama where the character's facial features were highly similar to Esther's and the voice seemed to be a direct synthesis of her unique voice. The AI-generated content appears extensively in AI cartoons and short videos, with some viewers commenting that five out of ten shows feature a character with Esther's voice, and some costumes directly use her look from previous dramas. In response, her studio released a statement on 29 Jul, asserting that Esther Yu has never participated in the filming or recording of any AI-generated content and has never granted authorisation for the use of her image and voice in AI, calling all such dramas and videos illegal and infringing products. The studio urged suspected infringers to immediately cease activities and completely remove all related synthetic content, adding that they have comprehensively collected evidence and will resort to legal proceedings to defend her rights.
