The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh (ULGP) launched the 2026 Empowered AI, a workforce development initiative for high school-aged students, supported by the PPG Foundation, hosted at Carlow University, and facilitated by Code Differently. The three-week program provided immersive training in artificial intelligence, machine learning, prompt engineering, responsible AI, and emerging technologies, with hands-on instruction, real-world projects, and an AI certification. Upon completion, students will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, for the National Urban League Youth Summit to engage with youth leaders and explore STEM, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Jennifer Thompkins, President and CEO of ULGP, said the program prepares youth to lead in the innovation economy. Malesia Dunn, executive director of the PPG Foundation, noted the foundation’s 75-year history of community investments and its support for expanding access to emerging technologies. Sara Oliver, VP for Mission Integration at Carlow University, highlighted the university’s commitment to equipping the next generation with AI skills. The initiative aims to advance economic mobility by connecting young people with knowledge, skills, and networks for high-growth industries.
