MoonPay Lets AI Agents Transact with PayBox - Finovate

MoonPay launched PayBox this week, a payment vault enabling ChatGPT and Claude users to authorize AI agents to make purchases, trade tokens, interact with DeFi, and move assets using natural language. The platform uses Visa’s agentic commerce protocol and x402, an open protocol for programmatic payments, to let AI transact while keeping users’ card details and wallet keys protected. After installing PayBox, users approve transactions with a passkey, and PayBox moves money without third-party developer tools. PayBox works with cards and wallets; MoonPay does not see or store full payment details, and wallet keys are protected by threshold cryptography and secure enclaves. Users can choose an approval mode requiring passkey confirmation for every transaction, or an autonomous mode allowing AI agents to complete transactions within user-defined spending limits and policies. Even in autonomous mode, the agent never gains access to card credentials or private keys. MoonPay CEO and Founder Ivan Soto-Wright said, “The card hid the cash. The phone hid the card. This is the era where money disappears into conversation.” PayBox is launching with support.
