Claude Code creator Boris Cherny shared five job archetypes of his team's employees, writing on X that fields like engineering, product, and design were "melting into one." The archetypes are: "Prototyper" (creates new ideas, "many of which don't ship"), "Builder" (turns a prototype into a "production-grade product"), "Sweeper" (cleans, simplifies, and optimizes performance), "Grower" (expands and iterates on existing products to better fit the market), and "Maintainer" (keeps an existing product "secure, reliable, fast, and efficient as it scales"). Cherny wrote that many Claude Code employees span multiple archetypes, and a healthy team has a mix of all five, though the balance may depend on the product's maturity and scale. "Maybe product roles of the future will look more like this, and less like the domain-specific roles of today?" Cherny asked. Figma CEO Dylan Field said in October that job titles were merging and everyone was becoming a "product builder." Kun Chen, a Meta and Microsoft alum, commented that he didn't like archetypes because they let workers "never question themselves again." Cherny responded: "Totally agree.
